Polished concrete is hip these days because of its industrial look but what is it exactly?
When a concrete floor is polished, it gives the material a kind of smooth and shiny finish. It is very popular at the moment.
We list the advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages:
- It gives your home a trendy look
- The concrete is very easy to maintain after polishing
- The installation is faster than tiles or parquet.
- Color pigments can be added
- It is durable
- It is easy to combine with underfloor heating
- It is reasonably cheap (you don't need a screed, for example).
- It is also ideal for a terrace because it can withstand freezing temperatures.
- For e.g. a terrace you can opt for an anti-slip finish
Disadvantages:
- The floor is very sensitive to grease stains
- Over time, dull spots may appear (but can be corrected with special products)
- Cracks may appear in the concrete over time
- It's not an option for do-it-yourselfers: you need a special machine and real craftsmanship
- The floor is about 10 cm thick and therefore not always an option for renovation
- If you are tired of the floor, you can't just lay another floor
